The Portobello
mushroom variety belongs to the same species as the
white mushroom (Agaricus bisporus). They are big, open, brown-colored
mushrooms. The diameter of Portobello mushroom's
head can grow up to 15 centimeters. The open mushroom indicates that
some humidity has been evaporated. The reduced humidity concentrates
and enriches their flavor as well as creates a dense and meaty texture.
Due to their high
rate of respiration, this mushroom needs good air circulation where
they are stored. Because of their long growth cycle, Portobello
mushrooms offer a rich flavor and a meaty texture.Try
marinating the mushrooms and grilling them on the BBQ. Morover, Portobello
mushrooms can be used as entrées, side dishes, or even
main dishes.
